An important opportunity to implement new standards...

Our information management specialists are thoroughly familiar with all aspects of XML and SGML, publishing, and DTD and style sheet  specification structure. This technology changes rapidly. As a result, Dayton T. Brown, Inc. makes available to its information specialists the resources to ensure that they are trained on the latest technological developments. Additionally, our personnel are encouraged to participate in the many independent committees tasked with the development of XML and SGML standards.

As a member of the DOD Defense Information Systems Agency Red Team, Dayton T. Brown, Inc. has reviewed drafts, proposed revisions and provided proof of concept during the development of a Military Standard Handbook for SGML tagged documentation. We have also worked closely with software developers in research and development, affording them the opportunity to test their products using our in-house systems. In this capacity, Dayton T. Brown, Inc. personnel have enabled significant enhancements that have been implemented by software developers.

DTD & Style Sheets

DTB Provides Proper Frameworks In conjunction with XML and SGML authoring, DTB also develops and edits:

• DTDs (Document Type Definitions)
• XML Schema
• FOSIs (Format Output Specification Instances)
• XSL Stylesheets
• XSL Transformation Scripts

DTDs define the structure of an XML document.

Purpose of a DTD

When using a DTD for an XML document (including XHTML), DTD is there to provide proper structure for your documents. It is easy to write an XML document, but without the DTD, it has no syntactic meaning to the computer. Without properly authored DTDs, the computer wouldn't see this as anything more than a string of text. Viewed in a browser, improperly structured pages could lose formatting and / or informational utility.
